Getting Started

Set up Ethereal Planes in minutes. This guide walks you through installing the host app, connecting your Quest, and configuring your workspace.

What You'll Need

Setup Guide

1

Install Ethereal Host

Go to ethereal.glass/releases and download Ethereal Host for free.

Windows: Run the .exe installer. It is code-signed by ETHEREAL, INC. If Windows SmartScreen appears, click "More info" then "Run anyway".

macOS: Open the .dmg file and drag Ethereal Host to your Applications folder. Grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions when prompted.

2

Install Ethereal Planes on Quest

Open the Meta Quest Store on your headset and search for "Ethereal Planes", then install it.

Or visit the Meta Quest Store page directly.

3

Connect to the Same Network

Make sure both your computer and your Quest headset are connected to the same WiFi network. For the best experience, use a 5GHz band and position your router in the same room if possible.

Tip: If you're on a public or corporate network, the connection may be blocked by firewall rules. Check our troubleshooting guide for firewall settings.
4

Launch and Connect

Open Ethereal Planes on your Quest. The app will automatically discover your PC or Mac on the network. Select your computer from the list to connect.

5

Arrange Your Workspace

Your desktop apps will appear as floating panels in your VR space. Grab and move them with hand tracking. Resize panels with a two-hand pinch gesture. Place your windows wherever feels natural and start working.

Recommended Settings

Enable CAS Sharpening — Go to Video Quality > Sharpening in the Ethereal Planes settings for clearer text rendering.

Use 5GHz WiFi — Position your router in the same room as your headset if possible. This minimizes latency and keeps your stream smooth.

Public or corporate network? — See our troubleshooting guide for firewall settings to ensure Ethereal can connect.

Troubleshooting

Panel not showing?

Some windows may not appear if they aren't captured by the host app. Read our panel troubleshooting guide →

High latency?

Latency is usually caused by WiFi congestion or a weak signal. See our best WiFi settings guide →

SmartScreen warning on Windows?

Click "More info" then "Run anyway". Our app is code-signed by ETHEREAL, INC — Windows SmartScreen may still show a warning for newer publishers.
